GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

          
 
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

The Caribbean Journal of Criminology and Public Safety (ISSN 2073 5405) (formerly Caribbean Journal of Criminology and Social Psychology [ISSN 1025 5591]) is geared towards developing and promoting Caribbean research and publication in the areas of criminology and public safety.  Articles with a multi-disciplinary thrust, papers dealing with theoretical issues in criminology and public safety, or those with cross-cultural implications will be considered suitable.  Papers which establish theoretical or empirical relationships between criminology and public safety are also welcome. 

This journal seeks to encourage interaction among academics, policy-makers and judicial administrators in the Caribbean and internationally.  Papers from within the Caribbean region and other parts of the world are therefore welcome.

Submission of papers: All manuscripts submitted to this journal should follow the style and method of presentation outlined in the revised edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.  An abstract of 100-150 words should accompany the paper.  Papers must be typed, double-spaced and sent in triplicate via email or with diskette copy in Microsoft Word to:

Book Reviews:  Authors who wish to have their books reviewed in this journal may send these to: Book Review Editor (use above address).

Theoretical Notes: There will be room for brief commentaries which challenge or enhance current issues on the theoretical or research literature. Such commentaries may also introduce new perspectives or ideas which could be eventually expanded by concerned workers in the field.  Send to Editor.

GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

Submission of manuscripts: All manuscripts submitted to the CJCPS  should be typed on 81/2"x11" paper, single side, two-inch margins, double-spaced and numbered consecutively. All titles should be typed on a separate line, without indentation and underline, in title case. Long titles should be avoided. An abstract of 100-150 words should accompany the manuscript which should not normally exceed 40 pages in length. The following format is expected: First Page - Title of Paper, Author(s) name(s), academic rank, affiliation, address, contact telephone/fax numbers. Second Page - Abstract. Third Page etc - Introduction, Theoretical Review, Methodology, Discussion etc as relevant, Conclusion, References, Appendix, Tables/Figures. Papers should be prepared following the style and method of presentation outlined in the revised edition of the Publication Manual of the APA. It is accepted that manuscripts submitted by contributors contain no infringement of copyright or contains nothing libellious.  The Editor reserves the right to make certain editorial changes where necessary, for example, relevance, style, repetition etc.  It is  accepted by the publishers that papers submitted to the CJCPS have not been sent elsewhere for publication. It is also accepted by contributors that the publishers will retain all copyright privileges on all material published in this journal.  

Illustrations (Tables/Figures): Tables and Figures should be kept to a minimum, numbered consecutively according to their sequence in the text and indicated by "Insert Table 1 about here" or "Insert Figure 4 about here." Attach tables/figures to be used in text on separate sheets with appropriate captions, titles etc. Tables/figures must be of such quality that photoreproduction and easy reduction is possible.

Footnotes: Footnotes should only be used if absolutely necessary.

References: Citations in the text should be indicated with the year of publication in parentheses following the author's name. If more than one article by the same author is cited, the letters a,b, c etc should follow the year of publication. Where an article is published jointly by two authors, list both in the reference and text. Where an article is published by more than two authors, list all authors in the reference and refer in text by first author only followed by "et al." Examples:

Publication Information: Contributors will normally receive a decision on their papers within three months of receipt.  If accepted, papers will be published in the next available volume. Submitted  papers will be refereed. Contributors will receive one complimentary copy of their journal edition and five reprints of paper published in their journal edition. Additonal copies may be ordered. Requests for copies of articles should be sent to the authors.

Permission to quote: No part of this publication may be used or reproduced in any manner whatsover without prior permission from the publishers except in the case of brief quotations (maximum of six lines) contained in critical articles or reviews.
